Charleston well almost

EToday we left early, 6:30, to ride the high tide and get under the Isle of Palm Bridge. This worked perfectly. About two hours before low tide we cleared the bridge only banging the tip of the antena. Then we hurried to get through The Ben Sawer Bridge. The kind bridge lady held it open for us and we were in Charleston.
It was a little windy so we decided to go to the Marina. We called but no room. We called the Yacht Club, but they said we were welcome to spend money it the restaurant, but could not have a dock. No problem we would anchor then dingy into the city Marina which had a dingy dock. We all got into the little boat and headed across the bay. Half way across the motor stopped and would not go. I tried to row, but the current was a lot stronger then I. Fortunately a sailboat came and towed us to Irish Mist. So much for a trip to Charleston.
I phoned around and have arranged to have it looked at in Beaufort. We will be there Sunday.
Here are some pictures of the other boats in Charleston.

Day 76 Nov 06

We headed out today about 9:30. Our intention was to go about 40 miles and anchor. We were doing fine untill we passed McCellanville. We knew there was shallow water, but thought we would be careful and get through.
All of a sudden the power boat which had just passed us stopped. They had less then 5 feet. We followed them for a little then heard that another boat further ahead had even less water. We decided to turn around and go back a mile to McCellanville. As we turned in we went aground. After waiting fifteen minutes we backed up and followed a fishing boat in.
Tomorrow we will get up early and go through in high water. We will plan it to arrive at The Isle de Palms Bridge about two hours before low tide.

Still trying to slow up

We are hoping to be in St. Mary's on November 27. We are about 309 mikes away and it is November 5th. We are booked in to Charleston for Nov 10 & 11. St Mary's is about 242 miles from Charleston. This means that we have 14 days to do 250 miles. When we are travelling we go around 45 miles or we would need 5 to 6 travel days.

Today we are staying in Georgetown and may anchor off the town tomorrow. I think we will get to Charleston Saturday or Sunday.

On to Georgetown

First of all to day we were going to stay at Osprey. Then we decided to go to an anchorage. On the way to the anchorage we were passed by Beckoning a Catatelina 47. I knew the mast was the same as ours so I radioed the owner and had a talk.
Jim said he was going to go under the Lafayette Bridge so I decided to follow. This mean we would be in Georgetown South Carolina to night.
Like all the towns we have been in the people are very friendly and the town is out of the fifties. We had a great dinner and are back on the boat to watch The Democratics go down to defeat.

November 3 A Perfect Day

Today we only went about 25 miles, but, there is always a but, we had to go under 8 fixed bridges and wait for three opening bridges. We timed our departure at 10:15 so as we would go under all bridges at low tide. It worked extremely well and we did not touch a bridge.

The last of 8

We saw birds you may not see it but we did.

We saw goats

And in The Rock pile we saw rocks

We are now at Osprey Marina which is tucked in off the ICW very nicely.
This is the entrance.

Day 72 Coquina Harbour

We are still in a very protected but tite harbour. The whole Harbour is full of docks and boats. When the wind got up in the 20 s and 30 s we did not feel it.
Tomorrow we will go to Osprey Marina on the South side of Myrtle Beach. We are suppose to see turtles. There are four opening bridges and eighth fixed bridges.
We will go under all the bridges at low tide.

Myrtle Beach Yacht Club Day 71

As I have said we came here too avoid the wind at Cape Fear. Trish and I wanted if possible to find a place for Kelly to enjoy Halloween. We could not have found a better place. Thursday night we went in for dinner after a long 61 mile day. The dinner was fine and the owner Rosie took immediately to Kelly who was at her social best. She said that they were sold out for Halloween, but she would make room for us. She also said she wanted Kelly to help hand out the prises.

I think the pictures speak for themselves.
