The Squab Cup

Each year the Lawn Bowling section at the club run The Squab Cup. The participants are non bowlers from both sailing and sports sections. We have a large group of members who do not sail at the club but  use the city club to workout or play squash.

My sisters Margaret and Joan along with myself formed a team. In two games we accumulated a respectable 14 points but were beaten by Mike Newbury the vice commodore of sports with 18 points.

It was a beautiful evening and all had a great time.

A Very Busy Weekend

This was a very busy weekend. First Trish and I finished fixing the inflatable which had blown off Irish Mist's deck while on the hard in Rochester.

Then it was time for the Summer Ball. We all gathered on the front yard.

Following Champagne and hot dourves Trish and I along with 298 of our best friends moved to The Ballroom. At the end of the room you can see the murals painted in 1922.

I even got to dance with Kelly
I got up early on Saturday to play tennis until the light rain came. We the all rested until 4:00 when my sisters and I went into St. Paul's for Mass at 4:30. Saturday evening we had the ukulele dinner and jam. I cannot play the ukulele but I am trying to practice. We are going to New Hampshire to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and I hope to be able to play America The Beautiful.

Sunday morning my sisters came over for breakfast and we decided to go out and watch the RCYC Open Regatta. My sisters did not come saying they had too much to do on Pipe Dream. On Saturday none of the courses on the lake got a race off. They just sat in the rain until about 2:00 and came in. By the time we got out Sunday morning the A course had already started a race. We watched the start of the second race then went back to the B course. We got away from the racing and stopped for lunch.

There were 18 J105s on the B course just off Toronto on Lake Ontario
On the way in from the racing we heard they were about to close the western gap for the parade of The Tall Ships. Trish and I decided to go over and watch. i do not want to boor you with pictures of all the boats, but let me assure you it was hard to leave any out.

My Thursday Adventure

Tomorrow is The Summer Ball so the first thing I did was got my hair cut. Then I went downtown by subway. The trip took about 40 minutes plus the eight minute walk to the platform.

The purpose of my trip was to see the tall ships which are in town. It was a little disappointing because the would not let you go below. I did get below in two vessels and was able ego board seven or eight.

I will now show you some of the pictures I got.

I also got a picture of our police station and our fire station.

Perhaps the high light of the day was I got to ride a train home. The GO Train stops right beside the subway at my house. It does not run as often and is about 3 times as expensive, but it is fast. The train took 16 minutes instead of 40. I should say it left right on time.

Toronto during a storm

Last weekend after returning from our cruise to Ash Bridges Bay Yacht Club I went to the Snug Island Docks and got some pictures of a major thunder storm north of the city.

Trish and I were in charge of the cruise and thus I forgot to take any picture. We all had fun and returned safely on Sunday. This weekend is The Summer Ball, The RCYC Open Regatta, and the ukulele jam night arranged by Dr. Doug Caldwell. I will do my best to get pictures of all the events.

The Frog Race

While we tend to be somewhat formal as epitomized by our club house.

We also run the Frog Race in our back lagoons. It is called The Frog Race because the original prize was a garden gnome which was a frog. This year the prizes included blow up Frog balloons.

Finally Sailing

I have messed up and erased the post entitled "Finally Sailing. Three weekends ago we celebrated Sailpast then the next weekend we had our first cruise to Cathedral Bluffs. We were not yet outside of Toronto but it was a good weekend. I have put a picture of Pipe Dream and another of Irish Mist at Sailpast. These pictures are followed by pictures of our cruise
